Coronavirus – Mon 16 Mar 2020 – the day of the DJIA drop, sites that aggregate case counts

The markets tanked. DJIA dropped almost 13% by end of day. S&P 500 down almost 12%.

Trump told state governors to basically fend for themselves. “Respirators, ventilators, all of the equipment–try getting it yourselves.”

Not sure of the validity of these numbers, but the coverage is impressive:

At 6:01 PM, the NPR map and stats for the US had 4,556 cases and 85 deaths. At 10:30 PM, this counter had 4,702 cases and 93 deaths, so very plausible.

This morning’s trip to the grocery store was not bad. Most items well stocked, but: toilet paper almost gone, meat picked through and at maybe 20%, a guy with at least 12 gallons of milk in his cart. Frozen pizza getting low because of Tech students I’ll assume.

Updated the next day

Here’s an aggregation of counts from several sites that regularly update, listed in ascending order of cases. CDC is the most conservative; Worldometer the most aggressive.
